What Ted Cruz' Victory Could Mean for the Congessional Progressive Caucus

A major shakeup, that's what it could mean.

Cruz' victory in Texas is being hailed as a victory for the Tea Party conservatives over business-as-usual mainline GOP candidate David Dewhurst.  Heavy hitters came to Cruz' side in the last few weeks including former Alaska Governor and VP candidate Sarah Palin.

Presaging tonight's victory for Cruz was Richard Mourdock's victory over longtime Indiana Senator Richard Lugar.  In Nebraska, rancher Deb Fischer beat Jon Bruning, a GOP old hand in that state.

Seeing a trend here?

Next:  The same national conservative support that helped Cruz, Mourdock, and Fischer must be brought to bear in support of Gabriela Saucedo Mercer (Facebook), in a little-noticed race in southern Arizona.  Saucedo Mercer is a living American success story.  She immigrated here from Mexico, learned English, learned American history and about the constitution, took and passed the test, then took the oath and became an American citizen the right way.

AZ Congressional District 3 is a district that runs along part of the Mexican border.  Immigration is a huge issue here, as is the economy.  The city of Yuma, which is no longer part of this district as of this election, has, under the incumbent, a 28% unemployment rate.

Oh, did I mention the incumbent is Raul "boycott Arizona" Grijalva?  Grijalva has major national influence.  He is the co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, which most recently pushed hard to get the UN to take on international gun control regulation.  Grijalva was one of the contingent of Democrats who walked out of the Contempt of Congress vote on Eric Holder.

But Grijalva's most memorable moment has to be when he urged a national boycott of his own state on national television after the passage of SB 1070.  In case you missed it:

Conservatives in America, we need your help!!!  Now is the time to support Gabriela Saucedo Mercer and get rid of Grijalva!!!!

Fast and Furious: Failure All the Way Up the Chain of Command

Crossposted at Blogs For Borders.
LA Times published an exclusive story on the initial information from a joint report from Rep. Daryl Issa, chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and Sen Charles Grassley, top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committete, which will be available in full later this week.

What we apparently have here is exactly what NASA had prior to the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster: lack of responsibility, accountability, and cover-up all the way up the chain of command.  No fewer than 5 ATF officials are cited by name in the report.

The Mexican government was kept out of the loop, as was known before, and only after the death of the brother of Attorney General for the State of Chihuahua by Fast and Furious guns did they become aware.  And, of course, Fast and Furious guns were used in the murder of Border Patrol agen Brian Terry.  A similar operation in Texas is likely to have led to the death of ICE agent Jaime Zapata two months after Terry's death.
I wonder if Eric Holder is as eager as I am to see the full report.

Obama's Socialist View of Parenting

Sometimes it's the little, offhanded comments that reveal the most.

I was browsing through my friends' blog sites, first at Innominatus, linked to The Best of Times in a Moogie's World, where I found this little gem reported.  I checked the source.  Sure enough.  It's right there in paragraph 17.

Context:  The Associated Press is reporting in NOLA.com about Obama's talk there to the Urban League.  The AP is paraphrasing Obama's view on gun control legislation and other stuff.  Then they actually quote him, and blow right by it without comment.

From Nola.com (AP):
Obama's message was comprehensive, but he ultimately did not promise anything specific. He spoke of community policing strategies and mental health centers, or programs that steer people away into safe activities instead of gang violence, of ensuring that parents and teachers step in to fill a hole in a child's heart "that government alone cannot fill." (emphasis by Velcro).

Border Patrol Local 2544 Speaks Out

Crossposted at Blogs For Borders.
President Obama is making life hell for Border Patrol agents.  Yesterday we posted a brief video from a press conference that included statements from ICE and the Border Patrol about the chaos resulting from President Obama's amnesty for "dreamers".  Here's what the rank and file of Border Patrol agents think, reposted from Local 2544 (which covers most of Arizona).

[Note - For those who do not know, IRCA 1986 was a very mixed message:  It granted amnesty for illegal aliens who had lived in the U.S. continuously for at least 4 years, and amnesty for some agricultural workers.  At the same time, however, it penalized employers who knowingly hired illegal aliens, and "increased enforcement at U.S. borders".
AFGE is the American Federation of Government Employees AFL-CIO.  That last part says quite a bit.  John Gage is AFGE's soon-to-retire president.
NBPC is the National Border Patrol Council, which was represented at the press conference cited above.]

From Local 2544:
"07-27-12 More shenanigans from the Obama Administration. The inmates are now running the asylum as it pertains to our immigration enforcement, just like they did with IRCA 1986 [link]. Agents are told to turn a blind eye to nearly everything outside mass murder, the lie that the "border is secure" continues to be spread, and the American people fund all this shameful political gamesmanship with their tax dollars.
AFGE continues to blindly praise the Obama Administration while constantly attacking and blaming "right wing lawmakers" and what they like to call the "super rich" for all the ills that befall us. During the last three years we have been under a pay freeze that is unrivaled for decades while the costs of everything from fuel and groceries to our insurance premiums have skyrocketed. Let's do the math here - that leaves much less money in our pockets while our home values continue to plummet and we face more cuts in pay (AUO) very shortly. Somebody at AFGE should WAKE THE HELL UP and stop kowtowing to the Obama Administration. The constant email messages and videos from John Gage are the single biggest source or irritation to our members in regards to their view of the union. That we have been able to build union membership in this Local and in the NBPC despite what AFGE does to turn members off is amazing.
See more on the immigration issue here."
Our borders are not secure, because the Obama administration and DHS Secretary Napolitano apparently DO NOT WANT THEM TO BE SECURE.

Guns Coming Into Arizona - From the South

According to our lying DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano and pResident BO, Arizona's borders are secure. Things are apparently so good that Nappy's office officially put out Border Patrol training that instructed agents, when confronted with armed assailants, to run and hide. After the story reached FoxNews.com, media scrutiny (which started with a posting on Local 2544.org, the BP's union local site here in southern Arizona), the DHS backed off and said they would "revise and clarify" the training. A 7/24/2012 update posted on the site stated that nothing has changed. No revision, no clarification, nothing.

[Oh, and by the way, Border Patrol agents (who's mission is stated in an earlier post here) in Sierra Vista, AZ tackled a drunken idiot who decided he was going to be threatening to the audience of the new Batman movie. The Cochise County Sheriff's Office stated it cause "mass hysteria" and a stampede by moviegoers.

I do have to point out another contributor to the chaotic aftermath mentioned by Local 2544... it has not yet been determined if the off-duty agents used the proper "run and hide" tactics advocated by DHS. We await the outcome on pins and needles.]

But I digress.

The drug cartels and coyotes bringing their products and illegal aliens up into the United States never know when they might need some good firepower. There have been running gunbattles on I-10 between Tucson and Phoenix, there have been extended firefights in the desert, most notably when cartel members set up and deliberately ambushed Pinal County Sheriff's deputies in the desert south of Phoenix a couple of years ago. One deputy had to be air-evac'ed out but fortunately survived. And of course, they murdered Arizona rancher Robert Krenz.

That's why they are stashing weapons all over the place here in southern Arizona.  They're gonna use 'em!  Assault rifles, handguns and explosives are half buried in the desert or hidden in caves, and very often members of the public such as hikers and landowners stumble upon them.

Maybe they have too many guns in Mexico, what with the influx of weapons from Fast and Furious.
What would it mean for them to stash weapons up here in Arizona, except that their intended use is here in Arizona also.  SIDE NOTE:  Tighter gun control is NOT a good idea!

But it's good to know that our border is safe.

Illegal Alien a Dreamer? - Let Him Go, Even When Crimes Committed

Under Obama's stupid immigration change made to existing law by fiat that was announced in June, illegal aliens can simply say they are Dreamers, and immigration law enforcement must let them go.  Today, top representatives of both ICE and Border Patrol unions explained how this is happening.
This video, originally posted by Senator Sessions YouTube site must be seen to be believed.  Its only 3:48 seconds long.  Also re-posted at Breitbart.

It is really tempting to say, "I told you so," but I won't say, "I told you so," because it's really not good form to say, "I told you so."  Besides, this is not about me, but it is really about how PAINFULLY OBVIOUS this outcome was going to be.  But in spite of this, BO and Nappy have the attitude that they're going to damn well do what they please, and the American public can go to hell.
So, I told you, "This change will make the immigration problem much worse and much more complicated," a couple of posts ago (Napolitano Defends Obama's Immigration Policy).
And they wonder why conservatives are so upset????

Gun Control: The Short-Circuited Thinking of Liberals

It's amazing how liberals' thought processes get short-circuited.  Pouncing on what she must have thought was a great tragedy to exploit, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Cal) revealed she was already in stage 4 of the 5 Stages of Bullsh*t (see previous post): We need tighter gun control laws!  Harumph!  Harumph!  Waaanh!  Waaanh!
The short-circuit I allude to is the lack of thought put into what happens when an armed assailant is suddenly confronted with an armed defender.  While each particular situation has different dynamics, most of the time the standoff will end rather quickly, which usually means less bloodshed.
Three examples of this immediately come to mind.
1.  Lantry at Cordite in the Morning links to a story that Doug Powers at Michelle Malkin also mentions, about a church shooting that took place in Aurora (of all places) on April 22, 2012.  A newly released felon shot and killed one person before he was killed by an off-duty police officer.  Two points are worth making here, besides proving Feinstein wrong. First, the fact that the assailant was a felon with a gun shows that gun control laws are completely useless in stopping criminals bent on committing an armed crime.  Second, that the assailant was killed by an off-duty police officer is irrelevant.  Any citizen trained to pack could have done the same.  The fact that the assailant only killed one person is a tragic victory that more were not killed.
2.  Michelle Malkin (different link) also cites another Denver-area story, this one in 2007.  On an early December Sunday morning Matthew Murray went on a shooting spree first at a missionary training school and then at a megachurch service until he was shot by Jeanne Assam, described as having law enforcement experience who was volunteering as security for the church's second service.  Had Assam not been there to challenge and kill Murray when he refused to stop his attack, many more people would have died.
3.  The third example occurred just two weeks ago.  Samuel Williams, 71, shot two men who entered an internet cafe in Ocala, Florida, wielding a bat and pointing a gun at customers.  The two, both of whom were later caught, were "falling over each other" to get out the door.  None of their intended victims was injured.  Hmmm.

The Five Stages of Bulls**t - repost

Some people have brilliantly identified the cycle cloying politicians and the mainstream media go through in times of tragedy.  The following was posted as a comment by WindRider on Hope n' Change Cartoons' post, Quiet Time.  He explains where he got it.
"I saw this yesterday as a a [sic] comment by Jeff Bonwick to a blog post by the incomparable Rachel Lucas . I think it sums it all up nicely:
I hate stories like this. They all follow the Five Stages of Bullshit:
1. The crocodile tears. This includes the False Moment of National Unity, during which people proclaim that events like this bring us together, even as they sharpen their partisan knives for the next step.
2. The blood libel. With no data, motive is assigned to some conservative group or belief. This proves false 100% of the time, but like a tattoo, the accusation can never be entirely removed.
3. The Rorschach test. Every politician and pundit on earth pens an editorial explaining how this one isolated event has a much broader meaning that proves everything he’s been saying for the last 20 years.
4. Something Must Be Done. A national debate ensues on how to make sure that something like this never happens again. This event was a wake-up call and a game-changer. Everything must be on the table. We must not allow a 200-year-old piece of parchment to prevent us from Acting Right Away.
5. Suzy’s Law. Congress vomits forth a bipartisan bill that no member dare vote against. For precisely that reason, the bill includes a litany of unrelated pork and policy for both parties that could never otherwise pass. In exchange for a few billion dollars and a bit of your liberty, the president, surrounded by beaming legislators, offers a few cloying words about “what this town can do when people put their differences aside” and ostentatiously signs “Suzy’s Law”, a new set of rules that, had they been in place before the tragedy, would have made absolutely no difference."

Georgetown Expels Student in Blatant Religious Intolerance Action

Georgetown University proves the hypocrisy of higher education holding forth the torch of diversity and inclusion.  It rarely is this blatant and visible, however.  Incoming freshman Jarrett Roby of Chicago was expelled from the prestigious summer Community Scholars Program because he refused to go to a LBGTQ sensitivity training.

Roby is a conservative Christian and held no malice nor was he making a "statement" by not going, he just did not feel he needed to attend.  He was chastised by three dormitory RAs and notified of his expulsion the next day by program leaders.  He was then escorted off campus by GU police.

Kira Davis broke the story exclusively, and subsequently it has been picked up by other bloggers, including Michelle Malkin.

Conservative Observer AZ wrote the following email to the GU Office of Communications.  Will post when I get a response.

"What is GU's official response to the Jarrett Roby scandal? Will the Community Scholars Program staff be addressed about this?  Will there be any discipline for the CSP staff for their religious intolerance?  Will they have to go through their own class on religious freedom?
I am awaiting your reply...

ATF Threatens Whistleblowers, Dishonors the Sacrifice of Brian Terry and Jaime Zapata

ATF Acting Director Todd Jones wants people within his agency to keep their concerns and complaints within the ATF, and not take them outside of the agency.  Use the chain of command, otherwise there will be consequences.  That was the message from Jones in a "changecast" video posted on the agency web site on July 9, 2012.

Any organization runs well when it's chain of command is used effectively.  But this one-dimensional assessment must also be considered in light of organizational culture, or the "unwritten rules" about how people should behave within the organization.  When the culture is one of fear and retaliation up and down the chain of command, a message from the top that says, "... if you don't find the appropriate way to raise your concerns to your leadership, there will be consequences. ..."* leads to supervisors covering up and inferiors clamming up under threat of retaliation.

The ATF has this kind of culture.  Truth is, most law enforcement agencies do.  But the ATF, and by extension, the U.S. Department of Justice, has a much bigger problem now because the lid to Pandora's box got blown open with the revelation of Operation Fast and Furious.  U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has blatantly stonewalled and dragged his feet to prevent more information from getting out, to the degree that he has been held in Contempt of Congress.

Congress is seeking documents known to exist that relate to the trafficking of weapons into the hands of Mexican drug cartels, some of which were subsequently used to shoot U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry on December 14, 2010, who died the next day.  In another similar operation in Texas, weapons walked into Mexico were alleged to be used to kill ICE agent Jaime Zapata and injure ICE agent Victor Avila.  I've posted a current update on their story here.  Of course, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano has stated that she does not know if walked U.S. weapons were used in the murder of Zapata.

So with the threat of more F&F information coming out, ATF Acting Director Todd Jones issued his "changecast" on July 9 that included *the above quote.  Ranking Senate Judiciary Committee member Charles E. Grassley and House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Darrell Issa sent a letter to Todd saying, “Your ominous message – which could be interpreted as a threat – is likely to have a major chilling effect on ATF employees exercising their rights to contact Congress.”

Grassley also posted a copy of the "changecast" on his YouTube channel, with the following commentary:
A video message from ATF Acting Director Todd Jones on July 9, 2012, to ATF staff presents a disturbing message to potential whistleblowers in the agency...the essence of whistleblowing is reporting problems outside of an employee's chain of command, and whistleblowers were instrumental in exposing the shortcomings of Operation Fast and Furious.
When is Eric Holder, Janet Napolitano, and the Obama administration going to stop their WAR ON TRUTH?  Probably never.  They have one-track minds that are bent on creating a socialist state.  I believe we are on the verge, potentially at least, of losing America.

Parents of Murdered ICE Agent Jaime Zapata, ICE Agent Victor Avila File Claims Against ATF, ICE, FBI

ICE Agent Jaime Zapata
The Brownsville Herald reported on June 20, 2012 that murdered ICE agent Jaime Zapata's parents and ICE agent Victor Avila, who was injured in the same ambush that killed Zapata, have filed negligence claims of $62.5 million against ATF, ICE, and the FBI.
The claims allege that, in a Texas operation similar to Arizona's Fast and Furious, guns were allowed to "walk" into Mexico, some of which were later used to kill ICE agent Jaime Zapata and injure fellow ICE agent Victor Avila on February 15, 2011.  U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano has said she doesn’t know if the weapons used to kill Zapata and injure Avila are tied to the gunwalking operation.  The two agents were returning to Mexico City after a meeting in San Luis Potosí when they were ambushed by members of the Zetas cartel.

According to the Herald, the claims notices also state:
Ignoring a written directive specifying the extraordinary dangers of this area and the concerns expressed by several agents, the supervisors required Jaime and Victor to make this dangerous trip...
"Their failures were not only negligent, but in violation of their own policies and procedures...
“The concerns expressed by other agents was that the trip would unnecessarily risk the lives of two young agents,” the notices state, adding that the equipment could easily have been shipped through the diplomatic courier service assigned to the embassy...
"When the agents were ambushed in the armored vehicle they were using, the doors unlocked unexpectedly because of a flaw, giving the attackers easy access to the agents...
"Jaime bled to death and Victor called for help...”

Avila recently described the ambush by the Zeta cartel, comprised of former Mexican military special forces as "pure evil." Even at the Mexican hospital, he feared that they would come back and finish the job. (Statesman.com)

Napolitano Deletes 287(g) Success Stories From DHS Website

Yet another nefarious outcome from Thursday's testimony before the house judiciary committee.  After canceling 287(g) agreements with seven Arizona law enforcement agencies, DHS Secretary Napolitano apparently forgot to take down agency success stories from the DHS website.
Via Weasel Zippers, from Washington Times:
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the part of her agency that handles the so-called “287(g) agreements” with states and localities, had a Web page dedicated to success stories from the program, pointing to the many dangerous criminal aliens who had been taken off the streets after local authorities nabbed them for another offense.
Hours after the Supreme Court last month upheld the part of Arizona’s law empowering local police to question immigration status of those they believe to be in the country illegally, Napolitano canceled the seven task-force agreements her department had with Arizona law enforcement agencies.
At Thursday’s hearing, Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va) tried to find out why — and pointed to the list of success stories on ICE’s website.
“There may be some success stories,” Ms. Napolitano replied, but said they were switching to the more cost-effective models.
“It doesn’t work. The program is expensive, and it doesn’t work the way Congress intended,” she said.
You wouldn't think Napolitano was the former Governor of Arizona, the way she is pushing the state's face in her crap!

Napolitano defends Obama's immigration policy

Last month Obama announced ex cathedra that he was granting amnesty for illegal aliens in the United States who meet certain criteria.  Today, Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano appeared before the House Judiciary Committee to defend the move.
Via FoxNews
"Our nation's immigration laws must be enforced in a strong and sensible manner," Janet Napolitano said in prepared remarks submitted to the House Judiciary Committee. "But they are not designed to be blindly enforced without consideration given to the individual circumstances of each case."
Her first line is pure BS as she has no intention to enforce anything in a strong and sensible (whatever THAT means) manner.  The evidence came later in her testimony*.  However, here is the criteria for amnesty:
"Under the policy change, illegal immigrants would be eligible to avoid deportation if they can prove they are 30 years old or younger, have been in the United States at least five years, arrived before they turned 16, have graduated from a U.S. high school or earned an equivalent degree or are currently in school and do not have a criminal record. They can also apply for a work permit that will be good for two years with no limit on how many times it can be renewed."
In other words, if you've simply been here long enough and have been in our school systems, you can stay.  Break the law, avoid detection, and if you have used any of the benefits of American freedom, you can stay.  Never mind that you haven't paid into the system that you have leached off of (food, medical care, education, local, state, and national infrastructure), you get to move up to the front of the line.
It is a slap in the face to Americans who are unemployed, it's a slap in the face to Americans who are naturalized citizens who immigrated legally, and it's a slap in the face to the Border Patrol agents who put their lives on the line to enforce and protect the border.
This change will make the immigration problem much worse and much more complicated.  What Mexican dad or mom wouldn't want to bring their family here so that the kids can become citizen?  I believe it is highly likely that the influx of illegal aliens will increase with this.  I can see Mexican teens trying to come across on their own.  I can see the cartels trying to exploit these kids.  And I can see that leading to potentially tragic circumstances.

*More evidence via Gateway Pundit that Nappy won't enforce anything:  She was grilled later in the session by Congressman Gohmert (R-TX) about an employee who, in the past, had a foundation that potentially supported Radical Islamists.  This same employee had accessed classified information from his personal computer and downloaded it, allegedly to sell it.  Nappy refused to answer the question whether she knew that the name of his foundation was the same name of an Islamic terror group.  Instead, she cast Gohmert's line of questioning as Islamophobic.

Secrets sold, not a problem.  Stop supporting local law enforcement, not a problem.  Supporting amnesty for illegal aliens, not a problem.

Global Warming / Climate Change Reports Admitted To Be Junk

All of the "global warming" crap that is now called "climate change" that you still know is crap - the crappiness got confirmed by a little blip of a statement issued by the Voice of Doom itself (aka, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or IPCC).  So what does this mean?

From American Thinker via Wry Heat:

"Hidden behind this seemingly routine update on bureaucratic processes is an astonishing and entirely unreported story. The IPCC is the world's most prominent source of alarmist predictions and claims about man-made global warming. Its four reports (a fifth report is scheduled for release in various parts in 2013 and 2014) are cited by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the U.S. and by national academies of science around the world as "proof" that the global warming of the past five or so decades was both man-made and evidence of a mounting crisis."
Basically, the IPCC was examined in 2010, by the InterAcademy Council, "the group created by the world's science academies [i.e., in the U.S., the prestigous National Academy of Science] to provide advice to international bodies," and found wanting.

The IAC's recommendations included everything but the kitchen sink, because the IPCC plainly was what it denied: a political organization.
  • Reports were not peer-reviewed;
  • Authors selected by politicians;
  • Reports were thought "too political" by other scientists and even some authors;
  • Falsely acclaimed statistical confidence;
On the basis of these flawed documents, characterized by the above bullet points, our government has created energy policy, wasted billions in "green" investments, and bilked the public of money and confidence in a deceitful shell game of truth.

Will the MSM pick up on this?  Don't hold your breath.

AZ CD-3 Conservative Candidate Facebook Page Slammed by Leftist Internet Trolls

Earlier tonight, conservative candidate for Arizona's CD-3 Gabriela Saucedo Mercer,  had a Facebook post slammed in a coordinated attack by 40-50 left-wing internet trolls.  Nearly all of them were traced to originate outside of Arizona, and at least 4 of them were from outside of the United States.  At least one commented from Mexico and Canada, and two from Australia.

Within 2 hours of Gabby's post, the onslaught began and went on continuously until the post and comments were removed.  Even then derisive comments and blatant lies twisting her words continued to pour in, proving that the attack was coordinated with commenters responding on cue without ever having read her post.

In the U.S., comments came from Oregon, California, Tennessee, Connecticuit, and Harvard among other places.  The idiot from Harvard proudly reposted a screen shot of the attack on a Latino anti-American web site, and claimed to have "reached out to Saucedo Mercer's campaign but did not recieve a reply".  This was a flat-out lie since all comments were anything but an honest attempt at dialogue.

Saul Alinsky would have been proud.

Feds Trying to Emasculate Border Patrol - UPDATE

UPDATE...Run and Hide Border Patrol Training
Conservative Observer AZ first reported this story here, Gateway Pundit here, FoxNews here.
"07-03-12 Since this information was posted and after media scrutiny the agency has offered to revise and clarify this training. Despite claims to the contrary, the training was clearly mandated for all Border Patrol agents. We look forward to seeing the revised training. We see no reason agents would need this training in the first place, even with clarification. It is a complete waste of an agent's time."
Calling this administration on their idiocy is imperative, especially when lives are at stake!

A Plea For Support

Sent to the RNC and Arizona GOP on 7/12/2012:

Dear Mr. Priebus,

You have a great opportunity to facilitate change the course of our nation.  I realize that elections at the congressional district level carry much less weight than presidential elections, and that the latter is, and rightly should be, the predominant focus of the RNC this year.

However, there are some smaller elections that warrant greater attention than others.  The race for Arizona's CD-3 is one such race.  It is a prime opportunity to elect a conservative and get rid of the progressive nightmare that is Raul Grijalva.  I am referring to the candidacy of Gabriela Saucedo Mercer.

Saucedo Mercer has trod a very inspiring path up to her decision to run for Representative of AZ CD-3.  A native of Mexico, she became an American citizen - the right way - in 1996.  She came in pursuit of the real American dream, not some hollow thing called the Dream Act.  She learned the language, the history and the meaning of the Constitution as part of her citizenship requirements.  You can read more about her positions on various issues at gabbyforcongress.org.  Saucedo Mercer has been endorsed by the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association, the Arizona Police Association, Arizona congressman Trent Franks, and Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin, USA Ret.
I am writing you because her cause is in desperate need of funds.  Arizona's CD-3 is not a wealthy district.  Much of it is rural and runs along the border with Mexico.  And yet its current representative has done so much to damage Arizona and the United States as co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.  He has amassed a great deal of power which not only damages America but does little to represent his consituents, who need jobs.

There are two major projects on the table in CD-3, which Gabby, as she is known, endorses and which Grijalva wants to shut down on environmental grounds.  One is the proposed Rosemont copper mine, which has gone to extroardinary lengths to work with the people of southern Arizona, and would bring on the order of 500+ jobs.  The other project is a new refinery in Yuma, Arizona, which would be the first built in America in 30 years.  Both of these projects would be a boon to southern Arizona.

So there is great need, but also great opportunity, both on a local level and a national one.  I am asking you please, to allocate a generous amount of money to help get Gabriela Saucedo Mercer elected in Arizona CD-3.
"These are the times that try men's souls... Let it be told to the future world, that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive, that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet and repulse it..."

ID - If You're Not a U.S. Citizen, Asking For It Is NOT Discrimination

What a crock of BS.  You need photo ID to set up a bank account.  You need photo ID to pay for groceries with a check.  You need photo ID to visit someone in prison.

"Tough ID Laws Could Block Thousands of 2012 Votes"  is typical liberal crap put out by the Arizona Daily "Red" Star.  This is just more BS put forth by the socialist agenda of people who have no idea what freedom really means, like Raul "boycott Arizona" Grijalva.

In this era of illegal immigration, or the influx of "illegal aliens", neither of which are perjorative, liberals would put the onus on society to prove someone without ID is NOT a citizen legally able to vote, rather than making sure that the only voices that are heard at the polls are AMERICAN voices.

Why?  Because liberal politics and agendas are inherently anti-American, anti-Consititution.  They want the world to cater to them and abide by their rules, rather than respecting the rules of the society of Americans.  Liberals love to be called "activists" because it is their glory to tear down what society has agreed upon to live in peace.

Great New Banner from Woodsterman

It's worth pointing out, as Odie does, the quote is from the Battle of the Bulge (from Bill Whittle via Warplanner).  Nice touch!

Facing $8 billion budget gap, California wants to become ‘anti-Arizona’ of illegal immigration

Ron White says you can't fix stupid.  I think he's right.  Check this out from the Washington Examiner:
"Facing $8 billion budget gap, California wants to become ‘anti-Arizona’ of illegal immigration"
Now, just think about that for a minute.  Does this make ANY sense to anyone?  With all due respect to some relatives and a few nice people who live there, it must REALLY be true that California is like granola:  Take away the fruits and the nuts and what you're left with are the flakes.
Ok, here's parts of the story (emphasis in italics is mine, the rest is in the article originally).

"A bill currently working its way through the California legislature would block local law enforcement from referring a detainee to immigration officials for deportation unless that person has been convicted of a violent or serious felony.
“California cannot afford to become another Arizona,” said California Assembly member Tom Ammiano, the bill’s sponsor.
"It would be great if the United States could throw open its borders and welcome in every impoverished person from around the world. But we simply can’t afford it. And neither can California. The $92.1 billion budget the state passed last month has an $8 billion hole in it. No one knows where California is going to find the money to make up that gap.
"Meanwhile, the much maligned state of Arizona not only balanced their budget this year, they managed to stash away $450 million for a rainy day.
"The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) estimates that California spent $21,755,953,468 on illegal immigrants in 2009 (the most recent year available). A 2009 Los Angeles Times article, using pre-recession 2006 numbers, pegged the number a little lower.
I will let my byline in red above be the final line in this post.

Do You Want the Rest of the World Tellling Us What We Can and Cannot Do With Our Guns?

From the Daily Caller:

... Can you imagine gun sellers having to check with a UN gun registration entity for each transaction, assuming they're ALLOWED to transact?

Executive Director, National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action
"Today begins the most important 26-day period for our Second Amendment freedoms in recent history.
"That’s because today, representatives from many of the world’s socialist, tyrannical and dictatorial regimes will gather at United Nations headquarters in New York for a month-long meeting, in which they’ll put the finishing touches on an international Arms Trade Treaty that could seriously restrict your freedom to own, purchase and carry a firearm... "
"Specifically, the U.N. wants to implement international gun registration requirements, bans on commonly owned firearms, tracking and registration of ammunition purchases, and create a new U.N. gun control bureaucracy."
Guess who is pushing and pushing for this?  Yep.  Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) and his Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC).  He is so busy with them that he's forgotten that he represents the people of Arizona!

Breitbart Promotes Brian Terry Foundation

I'm glad to see the word is getting out.  This is the kind of thing that needs to be promoted widely.  I hope I am wrong, but I doubt the major media outlets will mention it.  So far the only promotion of this I have seen is by Michael Savage, in this blog, Michelle Malkin, and now Breitbart.  Probably others also.  But this cannot just be a political football.

The Border Patrol, like any other law enforcement agency, runs the risk daily of losing people to bad guys, which means there will be wives, husbands, kids, parents and more who grieve, who would be deprived of income, deprived of opportunities to go to college, and ... you name it.  In creating The Brian Terry Foundation, the Terry family is doing the most honoring thing they can to carry Brian's name forward, and have aptly named the web site, http://honorbrianterry.com.

So please do what you can to spread the word.

Here is a brief, but very moving video honoring Brian.  Source: Michelle Malkin.

Tea Party Alive and Well in Tucson!

It really was an encouraging sight today as I was driving home from work.  There, at all 4 corners of Speedway Blvd. and Park Ave. were bunches of people with signs demanding the repeal of Obamacare, signs supporting Gabriela Saucedo Mercer, and lots of Old Glory and the yellow Culpepper flag that has become the Tea Party's banner.

Great location too, at one corner of the University of Arizona, not exactly a bastion of conservatism.

These photos do not do justice to all of the people there (about 50 or 60), but they were taken from inside of my car.  I stopped and talked with some of them and had brief but inspiring conversations!

We're not done here!

Blog Name Adjustment

Because there is another "Conservative Observer" blog in the blogosphere, yours truly decided to tack on the "AZ" to distinguish mine and to let all of you know that I live in the exciting land of SB 1070, Fast and Furious, illegal immigration, Joe Arpaio (except he's in conservative Phoenix, I'm in zombieland Tucson), NCAA National Baseball Champs, and in general, a cesspool of fetid liberalism.

Did I mention the name change?  (the URL stays the same: http://tucsonoutpost.blogspot.com)

Border Patrol Betrayed by Napolitano, Obama

Not that that should surprise anyone.

The Border Patrol's mission reads, in part,
"We are the guardians of our nation's borders.
We are America's frontline...
We protect the American public...
We steadfastly enforce the laws of the United States...
We serve the American public with vigilance, integrity, and professionalism."

So many things have happened over the past few weeks that we need to look at how they all fit together like puzzle pieces, and then think about what the puzzle picture looks like.

First, of course, came Fast and Furious, the gunwalking scheme run in Arizona by the ATF.  Over 2,000 guns, many of them variants of AK-47s and similar assault rifles, were sold to "straw" purchasers in bulk, who in turn would "walk" them into Mexico and hand them over to the bad guys.  This happened deliberately so that the ATF could track the weapons to higher levels of Mexican drug cartel leaders.  We now know, of course, that there was no interdiction like there was supposed to be and the guns disappeared.  Not even the straw purchasers were arrested.

A few guns were found, but only after they had been used to murder Brian Terry, Jaime Zapata, and over 300 Mexican nationals, which is the next puzzle piece.  The rest of the guns are still missing, presumably still being used by the cartels.  Who knows when the next deaths will occur from these weapons in the hands of the bad guys?

Third, immediately after the Supreme Court gutted SB 1070 leaving only the "papers please" portion of the law, minus its teeth, former Arizona governor Janet Napolitano's Department of Homeland Security announces that it has abruptly terminated contracts with 7 southern Arizona law enforcement agencies to help identify and process illegal aliens that the agencies detain.  No information will be given to these agencies to help identify who is legal and who is not, who is dangerous or a repeat offender and who is not, and no handover of detainees to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  No other states will be subject to this cutoff from federal assistance.

Finally, the Border Patrol union's local 2544 website chronicles that the DHS has put out mandatory training materials for BP requiring them to respond to active shooter-type situations by running and hiding.  Reported in this blog, Gateway Pundit, and now FoxNews.com.

The Obama administration gave the Mexican drug cartels thousands of assault weapons.  Then they told the Border Patrol that they cannot fight back.  Run.  Hide.  Call for help.

It is a crime that our nation's leadership does not have the same ethic.

This is a sobering reminder of the high costs of the policies of arrogant politicians like the Obama administration, Janet Napolitano, and locally, Arizona Congressional District 3 Representative Raul "Boycott Arizona" Grijalva, for not protecting our borders.
