The Border Patrol's mission reads, in part,
"We are the guardians of our nation's borders.
We are America's frontline...
We protect the American public...
We steadfastly enforce the laws of the United States...
We serve the American public with vigilance, integrity, and professionalism."
So many things have happened over the past few weeks that we need to look at how they all fit together like puzzle pieces, and then think about what the puzzle picture looks like.
First, of course, came Fast and Furious, the gunwalking scheme run in Arizona by the ATF. Over 2,000 guns, many of them variants of AK-47s and similar assault rifles, were sold to "straw" purchasers in bulk, who in turn would "walk" them into Mexico and hand them over to the bad guys. This happened deliberately so that the ATF could track the weapons to higher levels of Mexican drug cartel leaders. We now know, of course, that there was no interdiction like there was supposed to be and the guns disappeared. Not even the straw purchasers were arrested.
A few guns were found, but only after they had been used to murder Brian Terry, Jaime Zapata, and over 300 Mexican nationals, which is the next puzzle piece. The rest of the guns are still missing, presumably still being used by the cartels. Who knows when the next deaths will occur from these weapons in the hands of the bad guys?
Third, immediately after the Supreme Court gutted SB 1070 leaving only the "papers please" portion of the law, minus its teeth, former Arizona governor Janet Napolitano's Department of Homeland Security announces that it has abruptly terminated contracts with 7 southern Arizona law enforcement agencies to help identify and process illegal aliens that the agencies detain. No information will be given to these agencies to help identify who is legal and who is not, who is dangerous or a repeat offender and who is not, and no handover of detainees to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). No other states will be subject to this cutoff from federal assistance.
Finally, the Border Patrol union's local 2544 website chronicles that the DHS has put out mandatory training materials for BP requiring them to respond to active shooter-type situations by running and hiding. Reported in this blog, Gateway Pundit, and now FoxNews.com.
The Obama administration gave the Mexican drug cartels thousands of assault weapons. Then they told the Border Patrol that they cannot fight back. Run. Hide. Call for help.
WHAT DO YOU CALL THIS?
It is a crime that our nation's leadership does not have the same ethic.
