Feds Clear Arpaio of Criminal Charges

Sheriff Joe Arpaio
Reuters reporter Tim Gaynor must be squirming like a kid who hasn't peed in 7 hours to be writing this article:

Government ends criminal probe of controversial Arizona sheriff

"(Reuters) - The federal government has closed a criminal probe of alleged financial misconduct by Arizona lawman Joe Arpaio, who styles himself as "America's toughest sheriff," saying no charges would be filed, the U.S. Attorney's Office said on Friday.  The announcement on Friday marked the end of an investigation that began in November 2010 at the behest of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors to examine alleged financial improprieties by the county sheriff and his deputies."
You can almost hear the sigh of disappointment.  But wait! Gaynor continues:
"A separate federal investigation relating to allegations of civil rights abuses by Arpaio's office is continuing."
Whew!  Uh oh, but there's more dropped investigations:
  • A federal criminal inquiry was concluded last summer with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Arizona declining to initiate criminal charges.
  • Also on Friday: federal prosecutors decline to bring charges in connection with allegations that the sheriff's office had misused county credit cards or misspent money from jail facilities.
  • Assistant U.S. Attorney Ann Birmingham Scheel said in a statement that her office "is closing its investigation into allegations of criminal conduct by current and former members of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and the Maricopa County Attorney's Office."
"Arpaio, 80, who is seeking re-election to a sixth term as sheriff in November, has been under a separate federal inquiry since 2008 over allegations that he and his deputies engaged in an extensive pattern of civil rights abuses."
How long does a federal inquiry take???  Since 2008?  When Obama took office?  Isn't this harassment?

Bigoted Hypocrite Grijalva Smear Campaign

Two days before the primary election was even held that made Gabriela Saucedo Mercer the Republican candidate challenging progressive Democrat Raul "Boycott Arizona" Grijalva for Arizona's CD-3 seat in November, Grijalva had already started his smear campaign against Saucedo Mercer.

A cheesy, poorly edited (and probably illegal) video compilation from a WesternFreePress.com interview with Saucedo Mercer was posted (by a 64 year-old person named "PeopleForGrijalva") on YouTube on Sunday August 27th.  The next morning, it was on Grijalva's Facebook page.  By Tuesday evening, at 11:11pm, the Arizona Daily "Red" Star had a video posted online, under the title, "Video Excerpts Released by Grijalva Campaign."  They got no (zero=0) comments, so probably nobody noticed it.  What to do?  On Wednesday morning at 6:30am, a big article showed up ("Grijalva Slams Saucedo Mercer On 'Middle Easterner' Comments", posted in Home-->News-->Local).  It generated an incredible 223 comments, and it clearly had everyone's attention.  Probably due to the clamoring of chopped editing designed to make Saucedo Mercer sound racist, at 1:48 that afternoon, the full video of the interview was posted, without a story, this time in Home-->Online-->Video... a completely different location in the Star's web site.  It generated zero comments.  Hmmm.  Also that afternoon the story went national on Reuters, in an even more exaggerated article.

Now comes Thursday morning, August 30th, and a new article online that also made the front page of the print edition, titled, "US-Arab Group Demands Apology".  THIS escalation article generated 241 comments.

That Grijalva has orchestrated a smear campaign up to a national level is not in doubt.  The Star's first article, on Wednesday morning, includes the following [emphasis mine]:
"Grijalva posted a video compilation of Saucedo Mercer's comments on his campaign's Facebook page Tuesday morning...Grijalva issued a news release saying, 'This is reckless hate speech, and I call on everyone who has endorsed Gabriela Mercer to withdraw their support immediately.'"

This makes clear what kind of hypocrite bastard Raul Grijalva really is.  He deliberately distorts quotes by his opponent and then self-righteously calls on everyone to withdraw their support for Saucedo Mercer.

Playing the race card has become such a worn out liberal tactic.  Yet he tries to create a firestorm to draw attention away from the fact that he hasn't accomplished diddly-squat for the people of southern Arizona.  He's like a schoolyard bully, who has to put others down to make himself feel built up.  Must make him feel powerful, trying to make people fall into line through intimidation.

Made to portray her as a racist, the video is not the first dirty politics trick Grijalva has launched against the conservative candidate.  A month or so ago Saucedo Mercer's Facebook page was the target of a blitzkrieg attack of nasty comments within a two hour period after she posted a quote.  Interestingly, 95% of these were posted by people from outside of Arizona.  Is that because the citizens of CD-3 are not as vicious as Grijalva and his compadres (I use the term deliberately)?

Watch Grijalva's tactics from now to November 6th.

Ask yourself if this is the kind of person you want to represent you?

Grijalva acts as a cornered animal.  As Gabby said, Grijalva must be very afraid of her.

And he should be.

Saucedo Mercer wins AZ CD-3 Republican Primary! Grijalva Gets Beat in Yuma

Two big stories come out of tonight's primary elections for Arizona's CD-3.

Gabriela Saucedo Mercer with Arizona Governor Jan Brewer in 2010.
Gabriela Saucedo Mercer with Arizona governor Jan Brewer in 2010

Source: Arizona Secretary of State's Office.
The first is that Gabriela Saucedo Mercer, carrying conservative hopes for unseating progressive Democrat incumbent Raul "Boycott Arizona" Grijalva in Arizona's 3rd Congressional District, is leading in the Republican primary with almost 64% of the vote, to Jaime Vasquez' 35%, with 93% of the polls reporting.

That's enough of an insurmountable lead to call the election for Saucedo Mercer!

The other very interesting story is on the Democrat side of the primary.  While overall, Grijalva is leading his nearest competitor, Amanda Aguirre, by a 66% to 25% margin, in Yuma, Grijalva is losing to Aguirre with 26 of 27 precincts reporting (49% to 43%)!  Yuma, you may recall, had the highest unemployment rate in the U.S. at 28%!

The import of tonight's news is of national significance.  This is a prime opportunity to get rid of one of the most obnoxious and destructive progressives in Congress (in a future post I will set forth Grijalva's nationwide impact) and replace him with someone who has conservative values and integrity.

Grijalva is vulnerable.  For one, he is facing the first challengers from his own party in 10 years, and Aguirre led a very vocal, aggressive campaign that had significant impact on the Latino community.  That is one indicator of the growing distrust he and his progressive agenda has sown among his constituents.  Another indicator is his loss in Yuma, where it became obvious that Grijalva's progressive agenda does NOT include concerns about unemployment.

The vote coming out of Maricopa county is also revealing.  Grijalva challenger Aguirre got her second best showing, getting 38% of the Democratic votes.  The Republican primary in Maricopa county resulted in about a 60-40 margin in favor of Saucedo Mercer.

Maricopa county has more Republicans than Democrats, however.  Even though both Grijalva and Saucedo Mercer got about 60% of the Maricopa county vote, Saucedo Mercer got about 8% more raw votes than Grijalva in an election that only brought out 21% of registered voters.  It is very possible that between Yuma and Maricopa county, Saucedo Mercer could drive Grijalva out of office in November!

Go Gabby!!!

Border War Continues: Harry Reid Gives Tax Credits to Illegal Aliens Under Amnesty

I hope you all read Bill Smith's post yesterday at Blogs For Borders (also at IOwnTheWorld), about the 10 ICE agents who filed suit against Department of Homeland inSecurity Secretary Janet Napolitano, rightfully claiming that they are being ordered to break the law they have sworn to uphold (and this isn't the first time - does Fast and Furious ring a bell?).

On the heels of this comes horrible news that I saw first on the Border Patrol union's local 2544 web site, citing a story by FoxNews.com.

Not only has Obama invited millions of illegal aliens to come take American jobs (I know they estimate 800,000, but they don't consider the incentive it creates for more to cross the border and make the claim they're "Dreamers"), they apparently can actually get even more money in tax credits.

"[Senator] Sessions [R-Ala] co-sponsored a bill earlier this year to bar illegal immigrants from receiving the credit, but the bill was blocked from reaching the floor by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid."

Where is the responsibility?  Where is the accountability?  It seems the Democrats have decided upon a scorched earth policy as their time in office winds down to November.  This current administration has done more to undermine American sovereignty than the Soviets did in all of the Cold War.

Embattled Border Patrol Endorses Gabriela Saucedo Mercer

Border Patrol local 2544, which covers most of Arizona including the Tucson sector, has endorsed Gabriela Saucedo Mercer, the conservative candidate for Arizona's 3rd Congressional District, according to a post on local 2544's web site.

In a brief message, the post states,
"08-15-12  We are hopeful that she is the right person to unseat Raul Grijalva and we are proud to endorse her. For more information, please see her website here."

Currently Border Patrol agents are in hanging in limbo while leadership is "observing" the current AUO policy.  The policy pays agents for overtime when they are in a pursuit or other situation when they cannot stop and go home at the end of their 8 hour shift.  This extra pay is in danger of being cut or changed to another policy which, either way, would mean significant cuts to agents' take home pay.

The Border Patrol and their plight doesn't appear to show up on Grijalva's radar, much less is he supportive of controlling the influx of illegal aliens.

Grijalva is a Traitor II: Aztlan and MEChA

In my last post, we saw that Raul "Boycott Arizona" Grijalva (D-Az 3) is still a traitor to his constituency and to America, and would not hesitate to declare economic war on Arizona again.  Of course, the group of people he thought were being marginalized, the ones at the core of the SB 1070 law, are not American citizens, they are illegal aliens.

In the actual quote, he states that his mandate comes by his being elected.  Elected by who?  American citizens, not illegal aliens.  And yet SB 1070 was a "direct attack" on illegal aliens, not American citizens.

"We are elected and sometimes, there is a direct attack, there is a direct issue that affects a group of people that are being marginalized. . . I’m not going to tolerate it. I’m going to speak up every time."

Raul "Boycott Arizona" Grijalva
In a nutshell, he sees himself elected, in part, to defend illegal aliens flooding into this country.

[Chasing a rabbit that may have a lot of meat on it, one can ask, "...are there other groups who may be marginalized in Grijalva's district?"  The 28% of Yumans who are unemployed?  The ranchers whose lands are trashed and overrun by illegal aliens?  People who are hoping the Rosemont mine will bring them jobs while Grijalva fights against it because it might hurt the environment?  Conservative journalists Grijalva swears at and rudely walks away from refusing to answer questions?]

I also conclude that Grijalva is a traitor because he supports the "liberation of Aztlan," and the deliberate dissemination of La Raza's propaganda through the establishment of MEChA student organizations

I said a lot in that sentence, and to many of you, this is not news.  But let me break it down.  Aztlan is the name of the region of North (and South) America belonging to the descendants of the ancient people who dwelt there.  Namely, La Raza ("the Race").  [Another rabbit - how can anyone be blind to the inherent racism in this claim?].  La Raza's goal is to exercise economic and political independence, and "self-determination for the people of Aztlan."

MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán) is a primary means of accomplishing this, through "education," or more accurately, indoctrination.  Most colleges and universities have MEChA chapters as student "cultural" clubs.  There are also groups of "Brown Berets" (brown shirts?) that represent a military arm of La Raza.

Remember the big hoorah over Mexican-American Studies in the Tucson Unified School District?  This is what that was about .  The State of Arizona decided it didn't want it's young people being brainwashed by MEChA (here's an update).

At this point, rather than boring you further with a post that's too long already, please bear with me and let me present the words of MEChA itself.  I have taken great pains to not take these quotes out of context nor to cut out the flavor of the language; rather, consider this a summary.

This from the National MEChA Philosophy statement:
"Chicanismo does not seek to use the word "Chicano" as an umbrella term when representing all of "La Familia de La Raza". Rather, Chicanismo seeks to educate our barrios and campos about our history y cultura to further create a movement of self-determination for the Liberation of Aztlán, something that Hispanic and Latino has yet to represent or recognize...
"Chicanismo results from a decision based on a political consciousness for our Raza, to dedicate oneself to building a Chicana/Chicano Nation...
"Chicanismo involves a personal decision to reject assimilation and work towards the preservation of our cultural heritage. Recognizing that all people are potential Chicanas and Chicanos, we encourage those interested in developing a total commitment to our movement for self-determination for the people of Aztlán to join Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (MEChA)...
"Thus, by all means necessary, We Chicana/Chicano estudiantes or Aztlán, dedicate ourselves to taking our educational destiny into our own hands through the process of spreading Chicanismo, in the spirit of carnalismo...
"As Mechistas, we proclaim that we are the people of Aztlán and that we recognize our indigenous unity with our brothers and sisters of Ixachitzlan (Alaska to Tierra del Fuego)...
"MEChA pledges itself to reach out to the community and schools, to establish new educational opportunities...
"We, as Mechistas must dismantle the co-optation of Raza students from becoming "corporate Hispanics" claiming to be leaders of our community with no understanding of El Pueblo Chicano. Instead, MEChA seeks to train future community leaders to be consciously committed to serve the people of Aztlán...
"Finally, as Mechistas, we vow to work for the liberation of Aztlán, leading to socioeconomic and political justice for our Gente. MEChA then, is more than a name; it is a spirit of unity by comadrismo/carnalismo, and a resolution to undertake a struggle for liberation! Tierra y Libertad!"

Arizona Congressman Raul "boycott Arizona" Grijalva Reaffirms Himself as a Traitor

Lest there be any doubt about Arizona Congressman Raul "boycott Arizona" Grijalva's point of view, he reaffirmed it Monday to the Democrats of Greater Tucson.  Consider, as you read the following quote, 1) his readiness to inflict "economic consequences" to his own constituents, and 2) who the "group of people" are that he refers to in the last paragraph.

Raul "boycott Arizona" Grijalva is a Traitor
Raul Grijalva - Traitor
From the Arizona Daily Star:
“My opponents are running on the fact that ‘Oh my God, he said the ‘b’ word and he has caused all this dire consequences to come the state. Let me be unapologetic: we needed to nationalize this SB1070 issue. We couldn’t let it go in to the dark corner and just be a funny, little thing that happened in Arizona. This was a precedent, and the Supreme Court ruled on the precedent that it was unconstitutional in many aspects.”
“We asked the Attorney General to intervene, we asked the administration to intervene. And we said there is going to be economic consequences and there should be. For a state that can be this punitive, there is going to be consequences.”
"Have I taken some hits on that? Absolutely. But the unapology is about this: We are elected and sometimes, there is a direct attack, there is a direct issue that affects a group of people that are being marginalized. . . I’m not going to tolerate it. I’m going to speak up every time. I spoke up then and God willing, it will never happen again.”

1)  Grijalva's pride in having declared economic war against his own constituents makes obvious the fact that his allegiances are NOT with them.  He also makes it very clear that he will do it again if the right circumstances occur.

2)  The "group of people"  that he will not tolerate being marginalized are those at the center of the SB1070 issue:  Illegal Aliens.  Specifically, Latinos Chicanos/Chicanas.

These two facts quoted straight from his mouth add up to one conclusion.  Raul Grijalva is a traitor to America who supports the influx of illegal aliens ("Chicanos/Chicanas") to liberate "Aztlan".

Next:  Aztlan and MEChA.

AZ Gov. Jan Brewer Endorses Gabriela Saucedo Mercer!

Gov. Brewer with Gabriela Saucedo Mercer in 2010
Photo from Western Free Press, by Lisa Ruth
Gabriela Saucedo Mercer, Republican candidate for Arizona's 3rd Congressional District, continues to roll up endorsements from conservatives' heavy hitter list.  The latest comes from Arizona's Governor Jan Brewer.

From the Western Free Press:
"Governor Jan Brewer released the following statement supporting Saucedo Mercer for Congress:
“Southern Arizona has a fantastic opportunity this fall to send someone to Congress who will always support our state and fight for quality jobs, affordable energy and a secure border. That candidate is Gabriela Saucedo Mercer. While her incumbent opponent bows to unions and special interests, I’m proud to support Gabriela because I know she’ll always put Arizona first.”"

Prior to Brewer's endorsement, Gabriela had received endorsements from Arizona's Secretary of State Ken Bennett and Congressman Trent Franks, among others.

Saucedo Mercer will be unseating the disgraceful incumbent of Az CD-3 (formerly CD-7), Democrat Raul "boycott Arizona" Grijalva, who has already taken notice of Saucedo Mercer's threatening popularity, if an uptick in dirty tactics is any indication.  Saucedo Mercer has had her Facebook page attacked in an ugly, sudden, coordinated flood of left-wing trolls, mostly from outside of Arizona.  A number of her street corner campaign signs have disappeared, and disruptive agitators have suddenly started showing up at her public appearances.

All of which tells me that Gabby is seen as a serious threat by Grijalva.

And she is.

Tribute to NPS Ranger Kris Eggle on the 10th Anniversary of his Death

Kris Eggle
Kris Eggle
Until tonight, I had never heard of Kris Eggle.  I will own a lot of that, but its also pretty telling that I had not seen anything over the years in the media about him.
From Michelle Malkin:
"Ten years ago today, National Park Service Ranger Kris Eggle gave his life for his country. As his family noted on the Kris Eggle memorial website: “In the wake of 9/11, Kris protected his country by intercepting thousands of pounds of illegal drugs, many weapons, and hundreds of illegal lawbreakers from foreign countries, and by guarding a 31-mile stretch of our nation’s southern boundary. Kris Eggle was shot and killed in the line of duty at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument on August 9, 2002, while pursuing members of a drug cartel hit squad who fled into the United States after committing a string of murders in Mexico. He was 28 years old. As a fellow Organ Pipe ranger commented, ‘Kris died serving his country and his death has great value and meaning. But the life of Kris Eggle, even more than his death, continues to set the standard.’”"

It is worth reading the rest of the story on Michelle Malkin's site.

Why the Border Patrol Needs Administratively Uncontrollable Overtime Pay

Border Patrol agents are closing in on a stolen truck racing through the desert between Sells and the Ironwood Forest National Monument in southern Arizona.  Shots from automatic weapons ring out from a nearby outcrop and from the top of a ragged butte half a mile away.  They are aimed at the Border Patrol agents.

On another day an agent waits 3 hours for the arrival of a van that will carry the remains of 3 people they discovered in the desert back to Tucson for autopsy by the Pima County Medical Examiner.  Badly decomposed, it appears that the bodies had their hands bound and were executed.

Needless to say (I hope), events like these do not always fit neatly into a Border Patrol agent's 8 hour shift.  They don't break off pursuits of bad guys because it's time to punch a time clock.  They are able to continue in an urgent situation and be compensated because of "Administratively Uncontrollable Overtime", or AUO.

Anyone with half a working brain can see why AUO is essential.  Which says a few things about the bean counters and certain muckety-mucks in their ivory tower offices in Washington D.C.  Because AUO appears to be a favorite target during budget cuts.

From the Border Patrol's Tucson sector union web site Local 2544.org:

"08-06-12  We have received multiple phone calls from concerned agents today about rumored pay cuts. A supervisor in Naco reportedly addressed the troops at muster today and told them AUO was going to be gone in 90 days.
We have received reliable information from sources in D.C. that AUO is on the chopping block.
We are working with the NBPC to track down and verify these rumors. In the meantime, we feel it prudent to advise you that if AUO is abolished it will mean a net 20% pay cut for most agents. If AUO and FLSA are abolished it will mean a net 32% pay cut.
We realize the importance and seriousness of the information being spread by managers and we will stay on top of it. We have not been able to independently verify the information. But we do know that in addition to what is being put out to agents here, El Paso sector has told checkpoint stations that they will go to 6 shifts to cut AUO. Agents in south Texas are being told that AUO is going away as well.
We are working overtime to get additional information. More to follow."

In this economy, and in our dangerous border areas, it makes no sense to cut AUO.  Border Patrol agents are not well-paid.  They have not been adequately appreciated and cared for by our government.  They work under increasingly unbearable conditions imposed by political bigwigs seeking their next cushy appointment by hobnobbing with the elite in Washington's cocktail circuit.

Local 2544: Standing Ovation Ordered for Aguilar

Regular readers of this blog know that the web site for the Border Patrol's Tucson sector, www.local2544.org, is one of my best sources to put out the word about what's happening on the level of the men and women in the field.  Several interesting posts have been put up in the past couple of days.  We begin with notice of a visit by David Aguilar to the Nogales station.

David V. Aguilar, Acting Commissioner of
US Customs and Border Protection

Background: "David V. Aguilar was named Acting Commissioner of U. S. Customs and Border Protection on December 30, 2011. As Acting Commissioner of the Department of Homeland Security’s agency responsible for integrated border management, immigration control and trade and travel processing, Aguilar leads a workforce of 60,000, including 43,000 uniformed law enforcement officers." (copied from CBP.gov)

Having introduced Aguilar, it seems that his proximity to Washington D.C., Janet Napolitano, and the Obama administration is having a bad effect on his ego... possibly.  I leave doubt because it could be that the Nogales bigwigs and not Aguilar himself instigated what is described below.

The following is re-posted in full from Local 2544.org, the Border Patrol union web site for the Tucson sector and nearly all of Arizona.
"08-06-12 David Aguilar will reportedly visit Nogales station agents tomorrow afternoon. Multiple agents have reported that they were ordered to give Aguilar a standing ovation when he walks into the muster room. We have verified this with multiple sources, including managers. The agents are understandably disgusted.
So let's get this straight. Agents have been under a pay freeze for 3 years while our home values have plummeted and our cost of living has skyrocketed. We have received multiple reports that we are looking at a 20% to 32% pay cut being pushed by DHS and CBP managers. The Obama administration is forcing another disgraceful amnesty program down our throats to reward people who get by us after we risk our lives to stop them. Tucson sector's operating budget has been cut by millions of dollars under the Obama administration, which will result in the same scenarios that we've had in years past, with agents driving worn out junk patrol vehicles, ammo shortages and other assorted cuts that will endanger agents and make our jobs even harder to carry out. And someone is upset because the last time Aguilar was in Nogales he didn't get a standing ovation from the agents? Are you kidding? This is what is important to egomaniacs. And it's not just the rank-and-file agents who are upset with Aguilar's antics. Many of his managers, who we will never name, are fed up with him as well.
It was reported that all questions from the agents to Aguilar had to be submitted for screening before they could be asked. That position was slightly modified after the union questioned it. Now we are told that agents will be able to freely ask questions, AFTER all the pre-screened questions are asked and answered. Of course, if there is time after Aguilar puts on his performance. We will see how he reacts tomorrow and whether he alters his performance."
Next: Will Administratively Uncontrollable Overtime (AUO) be cut?

The photo to the left is of Aileen Smith holding the lifeless body of her son. Aileen and her husband Zach were traveling along Interstate 25 in San Miguel County, N.M., when a car driven by Ramon Hernandez, 43, collided with their vehicle. Aileen Smith suffered severe contusions to her midsection as well as a broken sternum. She was seven months pregnant with the couple’s first child. She was taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe where doctors performed a C-section in an attempt to save the baby. But the injuries to the unborn child were too severe and he died only minutes after being delivered. The baby died from a massive head injury and blood on the brain, according to a coroner’s report.

Hernandez – an illegal alien from Mexico – has been charged with homicide by vehicle DUI, great bodily harm by vehicle, driving under the influence, reckless driving, driving while license is suspended or revoked, and driving on roadways laned for traffic. According to the New Mexico authorites, Hernandez was convicted of DUI twice in 2000, once in 2003 and once again in 2004. He was also driving on a revoked license at the time of the crash due to multiple unpaid traffic tickets. He has pleaded not guilty. Hernandez is currently being held on a $25,000 cash-only bond as well as an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer. New Mexico is one of only two states (Washington) which issues driver’s licenses to illegal aliens.

Great Support for Chick-fil-A in Tucson!

Today, of course, was the nationwide "support Chick-fil-A" day.  The company's CEO took a courageous stand last week by publicly stating his opposition to gay marriage.  The tolerant and inclusive libtards immediately slammed the company in any way they could, with the mayors of major cities like Boston and Chicago declaring their opposition to *allowing* Chick-fil-a franchises in their cities.

I don't know who started it, but I like that someone issued a clarion call to conservatives to turn out and support Chick-fil-A today, August 1, 2012.

Even in liberal zombietown Tucson, the support was great:

This photo was taken just before 6:00pm local time (on my way home - sorry for the cell phone quality!).  As you can see, the line encircles the entire building, the entrance of which is on the far end of the left side facing the flag.  Similar reports come from the other franchises in Tucson as well.  The temperature at the time was probably around 100 degrees.

Oh, yes... as you can see, there were all of 2 protesters from the liberals.  One holds a sign that says, "No mor homophobia" and the other says "No hate."  ~200 people to 2.  Yeah...

Lest you think I didn't help, I did go out of my way to have lunch there earlier today.
